Fireworks Fourth of July Celebration Card

Fireworks Fourth of July Celebration Card

A quick spark, a puff of smoke and then lots of lights, sparks, pops, and bangs. My family may not spend a whole lot of money on fireworks for the fourth of July, but we do like to get a few small fountains, ground bloomers, and a few other small fireworks. Fireworks are so beautiful, big and small. But really it comes down to two things for me, Family and Freedom. It is so much fun to spend time with family and celebrate our freedom, I am so grateful for those who have served our country or are currently serving our country so we can continue to enjoy our freedoms.

With the wonderfully long holiday weekend, My mom and I were able to get a few cards done! It was super fun having a crafting weekend. So, here is another card Inspired by Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog's theme: Add Some red/white/ and/or Blue and Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Theme: Stars and Stripes and instagram's timeout challenge: Seeing Stars.

So I made a mixed media Firework Fourth of July Card!

Here is the card:

This was a super fun card to make! I loved all the colors and the fun bright fireworks! I used lots of different types of media to make this card and I am so excited to share with you a little bit of how I made this card!

I started out with a 5" x 7" brown cardstock to make the card base. I then cut out a piece of blue cardstock for the background and a smaller piece of heavy white cardstock a bit smaller than the blue cardstock for the fireworks. Before I placed the cardstock on the card base, I did the stenciling and painting work.

I placed a Heidi Swapp lined art screen over the blue cardstock. I then used Simon Hurley's cross my heart solar paste and scrapped it over the screen to make the textured lines.

I really liked the color and texture that the screen and solar paste gave the background. It added that bit of pop! While that was drying I started working on the Fireworks for the front of the card.
I used lots of different medias below is a picture of all the items/media I used to make the fireworks and background.

The items/media I used for the fireworks: Simon Hurley No Diving Lunar Paste, Tim Holtz Distress sparkle texture paste, Crimson and Stardust Stencil butters, and a firework stencil.

I started with the crimson stencil butter then the blue lunar paste and added little bit in sections on the stencil. I then scrapped it off in sections as they filled. I then added the next layer but using the sparkle texture paste and the stardust stencil butter. The final look without the background:

You can see that I had some stencil "goobs" as I call them on the sides and corners but I wasn't too worried about them because I was doing a bright background and they would blend right in.

Once the fireworks were dry I could work on the background. For the back ground I used several different sprays. I used Dina Wakley Dylusions Fiery Sunset Shimmer spray, Tim Holtz Distress Mica Stains in Empty Tomb-to create a darker background/night sky effect and I added it on top in spots to add dimension. I also used Distress Mica Stains in Harvest Moon, Tart Cranberry, and Snow Flurries to add brightness of the fireworks going off in a night sky.

I used a Princeton 1/2" mop brush and some water. I started by spraying the background and quickly working with the water and brush to spread the color around.
Just adding layers and colors as I went. I would spray and paint here and there and then dry and add more as I wanted. I took a paper towel and would dab at areas and so on. If you try to make this card I strongly encourage to have fun and do it the way you want too!

Here are some pictures of the final result... after many applications of sprays and dries, I even let it sit overnight before I finalized the background.

I then used a star stencil with the distress sparkle texture paste and the stardust stencil butter to make the inside insert for the card. I also did a little spritzing with the sprays and did a lighter background like I did on the front. Dried and did a little torn white piece of cardstock and brushed it faded jeans Distress ink.
I stamped "celebrate" in candied apple and brushed the edges with faded Jeans Distress ink from Tim Holtz
Here are the results:

I stamped "Happy Fourth of July" and brushed the edges with candied apple and faded Jeans Distress ink from Tim Holtz. I put all the pieces together on the inside and outside of the card and glued it all down and added some foam squares to make the saying pop.

And that's it!

I hope you feel inspired to create something, even if it only takes 5 minutes!
